Born in Chapada do Norte, - a town in the Jequitinhonha Valley - Leandro Jr. brings to life the stories of women who hold their families together — while husbands leave for months, sometimes years, to work in distant coffee or sugarcane fields. These are the “husbandless” women: strong, rooted, and full of quiet resilience.

With a warm smile and a gentle soul, Leandro welcomed us into his studio, where clay is more than raw material — it is living memory. Each handful carries the name of the town it came from, a way to remember, and a promise to return.

He creates, he teaches, he shares. In his classes for quilombola communities, just like in his art, what he shapes is more than form — it is a gesture of care and continuity.
